Shakespeare Stratford Half & Full Marathon

This flat and fast route, follows 1 lap for the half marathon and 2 laps for the marathon. The majority of the route follows closed roads around the town, with the remainder on the Stratford Greenway footpath, a hard compact footpath, ideal for pb racing!

Tissington Trail Marathon

The Tissington Trail, the site of a former railway line from Ashbourne to Buxton, runs along a 13 mile route from Parsley Hay to Ashbourne in Derbyshire. Surrounded by beautiful countryside the traffic-free trail is ideal for a cracking marathon and, because the route is slightly downhill on the way back, you’ve got gravity on your side! The race is suitable for both experienced and first-time marathon runners.

London Marathon 2024

After a long wet winter of training, the London Marathon is finally here and the Essington Harriers will be in attendance with 12 runners taking on the iconic TCS London Marathon 2024.

We’re so proud of our Harriers who have been busy putting in the many hours and miles of training and raising money for very worthwhile causes along the way.

To date, they have raised accumulatively;

  • Ocumel UK – £2,112
  • Meningitis Research Foundation – £2,774
  • Diabetes UK – £1,177
  • Acorns Children’s Hospice – £3,330
  • Alzheimer’s Research UK – £3,828
  • Action heart £2,360

And they are still raising and collecting money for these and other great causes.

Ursula Elwell is a well known runner in the West Midlands, you can ready about her London Marathon story (involving Terry Wogan) on her bio page here: https://essingtonharriers.co.uk/ehrc-members/ursula-elwell/

Looking Back At London Marathon 2023

We had four runners representing the Essington Harriers at the 2023 London Marathon, for three of them it was their first marathon, and the all put in pretty epic runs, we’re super proud of them all.

Also running a marathon, albit the lesser known Wednesfield Marathon, was Phil Mew who was unable to run at the Manchester Marathon due to illness. Another epic performance put in by him and his support crew. Fabulous running.
